Cartilage Restoration

Articular cartilage is a smooth type of cartilage covering the ends of the bones that form the hip socket. It helps prevent friction between the bones and can be damaged by injury or normal wear and tear. Cartilage does not heal by itself so, when needed, Dr. Bharam can perform a cartilage restoration procedure, which he usually does arthroscopically.

Cartilage restoration procedures include microfracture, where holes are made in the affected bone in order to stimulate the growth of a new blood supply to the cartilage and grafts where cartilage is transferred from one part of the joint to another.
